Bible Lesson 18
How can we be saved?
By repenting of our sins and trusting in Jesus
Jesus died to save us from our sins… but is this automatic, or do we need to do something to be a part of it? The Bible says we need to do two things: repent of our sins and believe (or trust) in Jesus.
To repent of our sins means to hate our sin, to be sorrowful for what we have done, and to earnestly desire to stop doing those things.
Believing means more than just intellectual assent, saying “Yes, I believe those things are true.” Believing in Jesus in a saving way means trusting yourself to him, being confident that his death paid for your sins and trusting in his righteousness to make you right with God.
To use a borrowed image, it’s the difference between saying, “Yes, I believe that bridge is strong” or actually stepping onto the bridge and trusting your life to it.

Hechos 2 (NTV)
Repent and trust
Acts 2
The words of Peter cut them to the heart, and they said to him and the other apostles,
“Brothers, what must we do?”
Peter answered,
“Each one of you must repent of your sins and return to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is for you, for your children, and even for the gentiles, that is to say, for all who have been called by the Lord our God.
John 3
Because in such a way God loved the world, that he has given his only begotten Son, so that all those who in him believe will not be lost, but have eternal life.
Because God didn’t send his Son to the world to condemn the world, but rather that the world would be saved through him.
