The Letter E
How do you pronounce it?
The Letter E in English is extremely changeable in sound:
- Elevator
- Women
- Feel
- Her
- Fell
- Weight
The letter E is also often silent in English: Able, Kite…
In Spanish, the letter E always makes the same sound, and it is never silent. It makes an “eh” sound, like in the words sailor and bait.
Practice Words
Here are some words with good E sounds to practice. Listen to the recording, and say the words just like you hear them. Practice this at least twice.

Practice Sentences
Now it’s time to practice some sentences that emphasize the E sound. You will hear it twice at the beginning; listen carefully before you say it yourself. After the second time, then say it yourself, just the way you heard it. You will hear it once more, and say it once more.
