Bible Lesson 23

How should a Christian live?

Loving God and loving other people

When the Bible clearly says that God is Love, it should come as no surprise that the greatest command for those who follow God is to love!

It’s very easy to say that the whole Bible, with all of its commands and instructions, can be summed up by saying that we need to love God and love our neighbor.

If only it were so easy to actually do it!

Fortunately, Jesus loved his Father perfectly, and he perfectly loved everyone he came in contact with. He offers us his record of perfect love, and he takes our record of failure and selfishness.

Now that Jesus has done all this for us, let’s strive to live the way we were meant to!

Amor por Dios o por los demás

Marcos 12

Love for God and for others

Mark 12

When one of the scribes came near, he heard them argue, and recognizing that [Jesus] had answered them well, [the scribe] asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?”

Jesus responded, “The most important is, ‘Listen, Israel; the Lord our God, the Lord is one; and you will love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You will love your neighbor as your self.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

And the scribe said to him, “Very good, teacher; with truth you have said that He is one, and there is no other in addition to him; and that to love him with all the heart and all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love the neighbor as one’s self, is more than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

Seeing that he had answered wisely, Jesus said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.”
