Part 1: Dictation

Play the recordings and write down the sentences that you hear. You can play the recording multiple times. Once you have finished, check your answers by opening the box below the recording.

Play the recording from part 1 again and repeat what you hear out loud. You can do this with the Dictation Key open or closed. You will need to pause the recording to have time to say each phrase before the next one starts.

Part 3: Listening for Information

As you listen to the following recording, listen for the answers to the following questions. Don’t worry about the parts you don’t understand. Instead, focus on what you do understand, and try to answer the questions in Spanish.

  3. ¿Por qué está tratando de llevar su carro al taller?

  2. Close the English script, and listen again to the recording from part 3, following along with the Spanish version.
  3. Close the Spanish script, and listen once more with no script. Do your best to distinguish the words and phrases you are hearing. Focus on understanding the main ideas, not every detail.

Mi carro tiene dos delanteros, y traseros tiene… bueno, hay capacidad para cinco personas porque el último asiento se levanta también.

Hello everyone! Today we are going to talk about some of the parts of a car. Well, how many front and back seats are there in your car?

My car has two front seats and the back ones have… well, there is capacity for five people because the last seat raises up also.

And, has your car overheated?

No. So far, no. I hope it stays that way because it is really hot.

That’s good. And, have you visited a shop recently?

I have not visited the repair shop, but I am trying to make an appointment for my vehicle’s oil change, but I have not been able to talk to a person.

And, has your car had a flat tire?

No, I have been lucky, now I am better at driving.

Very well. And, how many times a week do you need to fill the tank?

Well, now that we are virtual, it lasts me about a week and a half because I only take my daughter to her babysitter and I don’t drive much.

Ah, yes. And, when you open the hood of the car, do you know the parts you see?

No. I know where the water goes, where the motor is, but nothing else.

Yea. I don’t know many parts either. And, do you always use a seatbelt?

Yes, always, always. And all my children and I go well-secured.

Very well. And, do you use the gas pedal or brake more?

The same. Both parts, because if you accelerate, you use the brake.

And finally, do you sometimes use the horn when you drive?

Ah, yes. Well, I don’t use it always, but I use it like if someone is about to enter my lane and if there is a danger, then I do use it.
