Part 1: Dictation

Play the recordings and write down the sentences that you hear. You can play the recording multiple times. Once you have finished, check your answers by opening the box below the recording.

As you listen to the following recording, listen for the answers to the following questions. Don’t worry about the parts you don’t understand. Instead, focus on what you do understand, and try to answer the questions in Spanish.

¡Bienvenidos a nuestra entrevista! Hoy vamos a hablar con la señora Garibay otra vez. Y, primero, ¿puedes contarnos un poco sobre tu familia?

Sí. Mi familia, bueno, yo vengo de una familia de siete, son mi mamá y mi papá y somos cinco hijas. Y si hablo de mi familia inmediata, es mi esposo y tengo dos hijos y una hija.

Ah, qué bueno. Pues, hoy vamos a hablar sobre algunas partes de la naturaleza entonces ¿te gustaría viajar en el espacio?

De pequeña quería ser astronauta, pero ahora de grande, prefiero mirar desde la tierra las aventuras en el espacio.

Entonces, ¿te gusta mirar el cielo?

Sí. Se me hacen muy bonito los atardeceres.

Y, ¿prefieres mirar las nubes de día o las estrellas de noche?

Buena pregunta. Las nubes, yo siento que las nubes son más diversas, cambiando siempre.

Bueno. Ahora, ¿te gusta nadar en el mar?

A, las veces que he podido visitar al mar, sí me gusta entrar al agua.

Y, ¿prefieres visitar el mar o un lago?

Tal vez un lago porque lo único que se me da miedo del mar es la fuerza de las olas. Y en un lago no hay muchas olas ni corriente como un río.

Ah, sí. Y, ¿te gusta un día con viento o sin viento?

Sí. A mí me gusta mucho el viento por la brisa, que hace que un día más caluroso sea más fresco.

Bueno. Y, ¿te gusta recoger flores?

Sí, me gustan mucho las flores; siento que alegran la casa. Y mis hijos desde pequeñitos, cuando miran una flor, la cortan y me la dan.

Qué bueno. Y, finalmente, ¿cuál es tu parque nacional favorito?

Bueno, curiosamente, esta semana que acaba de pasar, estábamos aprendiendo mucho sobre el parque de Yosemite. Y confieso que yo nunca he ido, pero por las imágenes y todo lo que estábamos enseñando, me dieron muchísimas ganas de ir a conocerlo. So no podría decir un favorito, pero tengo uno que tengo muchísimas ganas de ir a conocer.

Y, ¿a veces hay tormentas en ese parque?

Sí. En lo que aprendimos, es que el clima es muy diverso. Por arriba de las montañas, hace frío y a veces nieva. Y abajo, está más caluroso.

Welcome to our interview! Today we are going to talk with Mrs. Garibay again. And, first, can you tell us a little bit about your family?

Yes. My family, well, I come from a family of seven, they are my mom, my dad, and we are five daughters. And if I speak of my immediate family, it’s my husband and I have two sons and one daughter.

Ah, that’s great. Well, today we are going to talk about some parts of nature, so would you like to travel in space?

When I was little, I wanted to be an astronaut, but now that I’m older, I prefer to look at the adventures of space from the earth.

So, do you like looking at the sky?

Yes. I find sunsets very nice.

And, do you prefer to look at the clouds by day or the stars by night?

Good question. The clouds, I feel that clouds are more diverse, changing always.

That’s nice. Now, do you like to swim in the sea?

Yes, the times that I’ve been able to visit the sea, I do like to go into the water.

And do you prefer to visit the sea or a lake?

Maybe a lake because the only thing I’m afraid of from the sea is the force of the waves. And in a lake there are not many waves nor current like in a river.

Ah, yes. And, do you like a day with wind or without wind?

Yes. I really like the wind because of the breeze, which makes a hot day cooler.

And, do you like to pick flowers?

Yes, I really like flowers; I feel that they cheer up the house. And since my children were little, when they see a flower, they cut it and give it to me.

How nice. And, finally, what is your favorite national park?

Well, curiously, this weeks that just passed, we were learning a lot about Yosemite Park. And I confess that I have never gone, but from the pictures and all that we were teaching, it gave me lots of desire to go and visit it. So I couldn’t say a favorite, but I have one that I would really like to go and visit.

And are there sometimes storms in that park?

Yes. What we learned is that the climate is very diverse. At the top of the mountains, it’s cold and sometimes it snows. At the bottom, it is warmer.
