Part 1: Dictation

As you listen to the following recording, listen for the answers to the following questions. Don’t worry about the parts you don’t understand. Instead, focus on what you do understand, and try to answer the questions in Spanish.

Bienvenidos a la entrevista con Madeline otra vez. Y primero, ¿puedes compartir un poco sobre tu familia?

Sí. Yo soy la mayor de tres hijos. Tengo dos hermanos menores, son niños, y pues, mi papá y mi mamá—somos cinco en total. Pero también tengo la familia de mi papá y mi mamá. Mi mamá tiene ocho hermanos y mi papá tiene once. Así que tengo mucha familia en México y en Guatemala.

Ah qué bueno. Y ahora, ¿te interesa pescar o cazar?

No. No he ido a pescar ni cazar.

Vale. Pues, ¿has criado un animal?

No necesariamente. Sí mis papás le dieron un gato a mi hermano hace unos meses atrás. Así que es un animalito—el primero que hemos tenido en la familia. Así que es muy interesante tener un gato en casa.

Sí. Es una experiencia nueva. Y, ¿hay animales salvajes alrededor de tu casa?

Sí. Hay venado alrededor de mi casa. Hasta un venado cuando, ahorita que regresé de mi casa, había un venado que estaba muy cerca de mi casa.

Ah, bueno. Pues ahora, ¿qué tipos de cosas pueden causar una demora en tu día?

Levantándome tarde, eso sí es una demora. Cuando el internet no sirve o mi computador se agotó la batería, a veces cuando no me siento bien… no sé, hay muchas otras cosas… cuando no hay comida, cuando no he ido de compras. Sí, cosas así.

Sí, de acuerdo. Y, cuando quizás estás en una sala de espera, ¿qué haces?

En una sala de espera, yo a veces, pues, en mi celular. Yo estoy en el Instagram, en el Facebook, en el TikTok, nomás estoy en mi celular.

Vale, sí. Y, ¿lees la etiqueta de la ropa antes de comprarla?

¿Antes de comprarla? No. Cuando llego a la casa, a veces sí la veo. Pero no, no necesariamente.

Y, ¿prefieres la ropa barata o cara?

Depende de la prenda que voy a comprar, porque hay cosas que sí son mejor comprarlas baratas, pero hay otras cosas que es mejor comprarlas más caras dependiendo si quieres que te tarde esa prenda o zapatos.

Sí, eso tiene sentido. Y cuando pagas con dinero físico, ¿qué haces con el cambio que recibes?

A veces se lo doy como propina, si no es mucho, a donde compré algo. O a veces lo pongo en mi carro, porque a veces ese cambio puede usarlo uno para estacionamiento cuando uno tiene que poner las monedas.

Sí. Y, ¿te gusta conocer a personas extranjeras?

Sí. Sí me gusta mucho. Yo he viajado a muchos lugares. Estuve en Europa por unos meses y conocí a mucha gente y me encanta, me encanta, me encanta conocer a nueva gente.

Welcome to the interview with Madeline again. And first, can you share a little bit about your family?

Yes. I am the oldest of three children. I have two younger brothers, their boys, and well, my dad and mom—we are five in total. But I also have the family of my dad and my mom. My mom has eight siblings and my dad has eleven. So I have lots of family in Mexico and Guatemala.

Ah, okay. Now, does finishing or hunting interest you?

No. I have not gone fishing or hunting.

Okay. Have you raised an animal?

Not really. My parents did give my brother a cat a few months ago. So it’s a little animal—the first that we have had in the family. So it is very interesting having a cat at home.

Yes. It’s a new experience. And, are there wild animals around your house?

Yes. There are deer around my house. Even a deer when, just now I returned from my house, there was a deer that was very close to my house.

Ah, nice. Well now, what types of things can cause a delay in your day?

Waking up late, that is a delay. When the internet doesn’t work or my computer ran out of battery, sometimes when I don’t feel good… I don’t know, there are many other things… when there isn’t food, when I have not gone shopping. Yea, things like that.

Yes, agreed. And, when you are, maybe, in a waiting room, what do you do?

In a waiting room, I sometimes, well, on my phone. I’m on Instagram, on Facebook, on TikTok, I’m just on my phone.

Okay, yea. And, do you read the tag on clothing before buying it?

Before buying it? No. When I get home, sometimes I do look at it. But no, not necessarily.

And, do you prefer cheap or expensive clothing?

Depends on the article of clothing that I am going to buy, because there are things that are better to buy them cheap, but there are other things that are better to buy them more expensive depending on if you want this piece of clothing or shoes to last.

Yes, that makes sense. And when you pay with physical money, what do you do with the change you receive?

Sometimes I give it as tip, if it is not a lot, to where I bought something. Or sometimes I put it in my car, because sometimes that change, one can use it for parking when one needs to put in coins.

Yes. And, do you like to meet foreign people?

Yes. Yes, I like to a lot. I have traveled to many places. I was in Europe for some months and I met many people and I love, love, love to meet new people.
