Part 1: Dictation

Play the recordings and write down the sentences that you hear. You can play the recording multiple times. Once you have finished, check your answers by opening the box below the recording.

  • El barbero corta y tiñe el cabello de mi amigo.

Play the recording from part 1 again and repeat what you hear out loud. You can do this with the Dictation Key open or closed. You will need to pause the recording to have time to say each phrase before the next one starts.

As you listen to the following recording, listen for the answers to the following questions. Don’t worry about the parts you don’t understand. Instead, focus on what you do understand, and try to answer the questions in Spanish.

Part 4: Follow along

  2. Close the English script, and listen again to the recording from part 3, following along with the Spanish version.
  3. Close the Spanish script, and listen once more with no script. Do your best to distinguish the words and phrases you are hearing. Focus on understanding the main ideas, not every detail.

No, never.

And, do you like to do your hair in a different way every day?

I cannot do my hair because it is too short.

Ah, then do you use a hair dryer frequently?

No, because again, my hair is too short.

Ok then. In your opinion, which style is better: a beard, a mustache, or a clean face?

If I had my preference, I would have a beard. But my job does not let me have a beard.

And, why do you prefer a beard?

Because it demonstrates a certain type of character.

Ah, ok. Well, for the last question. Now we have electronic toothbrushes. So do you think they are better than traditional toothbrushes?

According to my dentist, they are better. So because of that, I use one.
