Part 1: Dictation

Play the recordings and write down the sentences that you hear. You can play the recording multiple times. Once you have finished, check your answers by opening the box below the recording.

Play the recording from part 1 again and repeat what you hear out loud. You can do this with the Dictation Key open or closed. You will need to pause the recording to have time to say each phrase before the next one starts.

Part 3: Listening for Information

As you listen to the following recording, listen for the answers to the following questions. Don’t worry about the parts you don’t understand. Instead, focus on what you do understand, and try to answer the questions in Spanish.

Part 4: Follow along

Use the arrow buttons to open the Spanish and English scripts. Use the following steps:

  1. Read through the script with English and Spanish side by side, so that you understand what you heard.
  2. Close the English script, and listen again to the recording from part 3, following along with the Spanish version.
  3. Close the Spanish script, and listen once more with no script. Do your best to distinguish the words and phrases you are hearing. Focus on understanding the main ideas, not every detail.

Bueno, entonces hoy hablamos sobre actividades diarias y la cosa más diaria es comer. Entonces, ¿pasas por una tienda específica cuando necesitas comprar comida?

Me encanta ir a Northgate o Stater Brothers.

Bueno. Otra actividad diaria es sacar la basura. Entonces, ¿quién saca la basura en tu casa?

Mi hijo Daniel.

Y ¿le gusta sacar la basura o no?

Más o menos.

Y ¿te gusta charlar más por mensajes de texto o por teléfono?

Por teléfono.

¿Por qué?

Porque creo que es más personal. Para mí, es importante conectarme con la persona, oír la voz, la entonación. Y cuando es un texto, a veces uno no sabe realmente si la persona está contestando la pregunta – si están tristes o contentos. De todo me prefiero hablar con alguien en persona, pero si no se puede, por teléfono.

Y con tu teléfono, ¿malgastas tiempo a veces?

Muy poquito. Porque realmente no me gusta pasar mucho tiempo en la tecnología ni en el teléfono. Tengo otras cosas que me gustan hacer.

Cuando vas de vacaciones, ¿prefieres organizar un viaje o simplemente viajar sin un plan?

Me gusta a veces tener – depende. Si voy internacional, me gusta tener un plan. Si es aquí, cercas, no necesitamos un plan.

Y cuando viajas sin un plan, ¿cómo exploras?

A veces nos vamos por el carro y a veces nos vamos por la pista, por el “freeway”. Y luego cuando llegamos a un lugar que se ve interesante, a veces nos salimos por la salida y entonces vamos a ver qué hay en esa área. Si hay un restaurante, o si hay una playa. Depende de qué tenemos ganas en ciertos días.

Y ¿cuáles son otras actividades que te gusta hacer?

Bueno, me gusta ir, como por ejemplo, a parques. Me gusta la naturaleza. Me gusta ver los pájaros, los patos, diferentes animales. Me gusta ir a la playa, caminar por la arena. Me gustan cosas naturales.

Entonces, ¿la naturaleza es tu lugar ideal para descansar?

Sí. Me gusta ir y disfrutar y admirar toda la creación. No lo hacemos todo el tiempo, pero cuando tenemos tiempo, sí me gusta.

Well, today we talk about daily activities and the most daily thing is eating. So do you stop by a specific store when you need to buy food?

I like to go to Northgate or Stater Brothers.

Good. Another daily activity is taking out the trash. So who takes out the trash in your house?

My son Daniel.

And does he like to take out the trash?

Kind of.

And do you like to talk more through text messages or by phone?

By phone.

Why?

Because I think that it is more personal. For me, it is important to connect myself with the person, to listen to the voice and the intonation. And when it is a text, sometimes one does not know really… if someone is answering a question – if they are sad or happy. Overall, I prefer to talk with someone in person but if not, by phone.

And with your phone, do you waste time sometimes?

Very little. Because I really do not like to spend much time on technology nor on the phone. I have other things that I like to do.

When you go on vacations, do you prefer to organize a trip or simply travel without a plan?

Sometimes I like to have – it depends. If I go international, I like to have a plan. But if it’s here, close, we do not need a plan.

And when you travel without a plan, how do you explore?

Sometimes we go by car and sometimes we go by the freeway. And then when we arrive at a place that looks interesting, sometimes we leave by the exit and then we go to see what is there in that area. If there is a restaurant, or if there is a beach. It depends on what we feel like on certain days.

And what are other activities that you like to do?

Well, I like to go, like for example, to parks. I like nature. I like to see the birds, the ducks, different animals. I like to go to the beach, walk on the sand. I like natural things.

So is nature your ideal place to rest?

Yes. I like to go and enjoy and admire all of creation. We do not do it all the time but when we have time, I do like it.
