Bible Lesson 7

La Tentación de Jesús – The Temptation of Jesus

This passage demonstrates for us the truth of several other important scriptures:

  • For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathise with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15
  • No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.  1 Corinthians 10:13
  • I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11

Then the Spirit brought Jesus to the desert so that the devil would submit him to temptation. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter approached him and proposed to him:

“If you are the Son of God, order these stones that they would become bread.”

Jesus responded to him:

“It is written: ‘Not only on bread lives man, but on every word that leaves from the mouth of God.’ ”

Then the devil took him to the holy city and made him to stand on the tallest part of the temple, and he said to him:

“If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. Because it is written:

‘He will command that his angels carry you in their hands, so that you do not trip on any stone.’ ”

“Also it is written: ‘Do not put to the test the Lord your God’ ” Jesus answered him.

Once again the devil tempted him, bringing him to a very tall mountain, and he showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.

“All this I will give you if you bow yourself and worship me.”

“Get away, Satan!” Jesus told him, “because it is written, ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’ ”

Then the devil left him alone, and some angels came and served him.
