History Lesson 9
La Conquista de Centroamérica – The Conquest of Central America
After Cortés conquers the Aztec capital and begins the territory of New Spain, the process of conquering and colonizing Central America continues for about 150 years. While the majority of the territories are dominated within 20 years, some regions take much longer to subdue.
It is not only the superior weapons of the Spaniards that brings such rapid devastation to the natives; Smallpox and other diseases play a significant role as well.
Some tribes, however, maintain a stern defense against all odds, aided by other enemies of Spain.
