Part 1: Dictation

As you listen to the following recording, listen for the answers to the following questions. Don’t worry about the parts you don’t understand. Instead, focus on what you do understand, and try to answer the questions in Spanish.

Hola y bienvenidos a la entrevista final con Profesora Short. Y primero, ¿puedes compartir un poco sobre tu familia?

¡Hola Elva! Sí, yo tengo una familia bastante grande, no súper grande. Tengo dos hermanas y tres hermanos y pues, me encanta mi familia. Es un poco loca, pero los amo mucho.

Ah qué bueno. Y, la primera pregunta es, aparte de Jesús, ¿tienes una persona favorita en la Biblia?

Sí. Pues, hay varias personas. Pero Rut es una persona favorita mía.

Y, ¿por qué es una persona favorita?

Porque ella sigue a Dios aunque es difícil para ella y hace lo correcto sin pensar en lo que puede recibir. Y al final, Dios le dio todo.

Sí, estoy de acuerdo – creo que es un buen ejemplo. Y en tu opinión, ¿los profetas de la Biblia son importantes?

Sí. Yo creo que son importantes porque todos somos humanos y podemos cometer los mismos errores, y los profetas hablaban a la gente anteriormente, pero también podemos aplicar algunos de sus mensajes a nosotros también.

Vale. Y, ¿crees que Dios sana a personas hoy en día?

Creo que sí es posible. Creo que depende de la persona en cuanto a esa persona depende de Dios. Por ejemplo, yo creo que hay más en África donde no tienen otras opciones y tienen una fe enorme.

Y además, ¿tienes un salmo favorito?

Sí. Me encanta salmo 18 porque, pues, es un salmo muy interesante porque al comienzo… pues, el rey David escribió ese salmo… y al comienzo, él está desesperado y piensa que no hay rescate, no hay manera de seguir. Y Dios no solo lo rescató sino cambió todo y al final, David empieza a conquistar. El cambio es muy interesante, es muy fuerte.

Qué interesante, sí. Y, ¿tienes una epístola que te gusta leer mucho también?

Sí. Yo tengo varios pero mi favorito es Santiago.

Vale. Y, ¿cuál es una cosa por la que agradeces a Dios?

Por mi familia, por mi trabajo, y por su misericordia.

Y, ¿cómo ha demostrado Dios su misericordia?

Ay, pues, Él me da lo que no merezco.

Hello and welcome to the final interview with Professor Short. And first, can you share a little about your family?

Hi Elva! Yes, I have a pretty big family but not super big. I have two sisters and three brothers and, well, I love my family. It’s a bit crazy but I love them a lot.

Ah, that’s great. And, the first question is, besides Jesus, do you have a favorite person in the Bible?

Yes. Well, there are various people. But Ruth is my favorite person.

And, why is she a favorite person?

Because she follows God even though it is difficult for her, and she does what is correct without thinking of what she can receive. And in the end, God gave her everything.

Yes, I agree – I think she is a good example. And in your opinion, are the prophets in the Bible important?

Yes. I think that they are important because we are all humans and we can commit the same errors, and prophets talked to the people previously, but we can also apply some of their messages to us as well.

Okay, and do you think God heals people today?

I think that it is possible. I think that it depends on the person and how much they depend on God. For example, I think that there is more in Africa where they don’t have other options and they have an enormous faith.

And additionally, do you have a favorite Psalm?

Yes. I like Psalm 18 because, well, it is a very interesting Psalm because in the beginning… well, King David wrote that Psalm… and in the beginning, he is desperate and thinks that there is no rescue, there is no way to continue. And God not only rescued him but changed everything, and in the end, David begins to conquer. The change is very interesting, very strong.

How interesting, yes. And, do you have an epistle that you like to read a lot as well?

Yes. I have several but my favorite is James.

Okay, and what is one thing that you thank God for?

For my family, for my job and for His mercy.

And, how has God demonstrated His mercy?

Ay, well, He gives me what I do not deserve.
