Part 1: Dictation

Play the recordings and write down the sentences that you hear. You can play the recording multiple times. Once you have finished, check your answers by opening the box below the recording.

  • A nadie le gustan los nietos de Lorenzo, porque son muy mentirosos.
  • Mi padrastro es muy cortés, pero mi hermanastro es maleducado.
  • Tengo dos cuñados, y ellos son chistosos y leales.
  • No conozco a mis bisabuelos, pero mi padre dice que son ricos.

Play the recording from part 1 again and repeat what you hear out loud. You can do this with the Dictation Key open or closed. You will need to pause the recording to have time to say each phrase before the next one starts.

As you listen to the following recording, listen for the answers to the following questions. Don’t worry about the parts you don’t understand. Instead, focus on what you do understand, and try to answer the questions in Spanish.

Once you have done your best to answer the questions, please use the button to check your responses.

Bienvenidos a la próxima entrevista con la Señora Pinedo. Hoy vamos a hablar sobre los miembros de la familia. Entonces, para empezar, ¿tienes un miembro de la familia que es muy chistoso?

Sí, mi hijo Daniel. A veces le gusta repetir cosas que ha oído, le gustan mucho los chistes, le gustan muchas películas de comedia, le gusta reír. ¡Le encanta!

Bueno, ¿hay alguien en tu familia quien es muy hablador?

¡Sí! Yo, y mi hijo Daniel, nos gusta hablar.

Bueno, ¿conoces a tus bisabuelos?

Sabes, no, nunca los conocí.

¿Qué tal primos? ¿Tienes muchos primos?

Sí, tengo muchos primos.

¿y cuántos primos?

Diría como… bueno, depende. Tengo muchos primos en México, pero aquí en California, tengo como unos cuarenta.

Y ¿visitas a los primos frecuentemente, o no?

En los últimos años, no, no los he visto, no los he visto casi para nada. Ellos están bien ocupados, y nosotros acá también. Lástima, es una lástima, pero realmente no nos hemos visto, en los últimos años.

Bueno, ¿cómo son tu suegro y suegra?

Bueno, mi suegra es una persona muy linda, muy querida, la quiero mucho. Me quiere como una hija, dice que soy como una hija para ella. Mi suegro, desafortunadamente, falleció. Él murió hace siete años. Pero él también era un hombre que me quería mucho. Yo también, lo quería mucho ¡Chistoso! Oh, ¡tenía una risa pero bien fuerte! Y también le gustaban los chistes.

Welcome to the next interview with Mrs. Pinedo. Today we’re going to talk about family members. So, to begin, do you have a family member who is really funny?

Yes, my son Daniel. Sometimes he likes to repeat things he has heard, he likes jokes a lot, he likes a lot of comedies, he likes to laugh. He loves it!

Good, is there anyone in your family who is very talkative?

Yes! Me, and my son Daniel, we like to talk.

Well, do you know your great-grandparents?

You know, no, I never met them.

What about cousins? Do you have many cousins?

Yes, I have a lot of cousins.

And, how many cousins?

I would say, like… well, it depends. I have a lot of cousins in Mexico, but here in California, I have like forty-something.

And do you visit the cousins often, or not?

In recent years, no, I haven’t seen them, I haven’t seen them almost at all. They are fairly busy, and we are here as well. Shame, it’s a shame, but really we haven’t seen each other, in recent years.

Good. What are your in-laws like?

Well, my mother-in-law is a lovely person, very dear, I love her a lot. She loves me like a daughter, she says that I am like a daughter to her. My father-in-law, unfortunately, passed away. He died seven years ago. But he also was a man who loved me a lot. Me too, I loved him a lot. Funny! Oh, he had a really loud laugh! And he also liked jokes.
