Part 1: Dictation

Play the recordings and write down the sentences that you hear. You can play the recording multiple times. Once you have finished, check your answers by opening the box below the recording.

  • Pongo la lámpara y el florero sobre el tocador.
  • El papel higiénico está al lado del inodoro.
  • Mamá quiere poner un cuadro encima del asiento, pero papá no quiere.

Part 2: Repetition for Pronunciation

Play the recording from part 1 again and repeat what you hear out loud. You can do this with the Dictation Key open or closed. You will need to pause the recording to have time to say each phrase before the next one starts.

Part 3: Listening for Information

As you listen to the following recording, listen for the answers to the following questions. Don’t worry about the parts you don’t understand. Instead, focus on what you do understand, and try to answer the questions in Spanish.

Once you have done your best to answer the questions, please use the button to check your responses.

  1. ¿Cuántas almohadas usa la señora Pinedo?
  2. ¿Duerme con una lámpara encendida (turned on) o apagada (turned off)?
  3. ¿De dónde obtiene flores ella?  (obtener = to get)
  4. ¿Le gustan los pisos con alfombra?
  5. ¿Ella usa los jabones regulares o especiales?
  6. ¿Cuándo se pone la crema para hidratar la piel? (hidratar = to moisturize)
  7. ¿Prefiere usar una bañera o una ducha la señora Pinedo?

    1. Ella usa una almohada.
    2. No, prefiere dormir con la lámpara apagada.

    5. Ella usa jabones especiales (orgánicos, naturales, con aceites esenciales).

Part 4: Follow along

Use the arrow buttons to open the Spanish and English scripts. Use the following steps:

  1. Read through the script with English and Spanish side by side, so that you understand what you heard.
  2. Close the English script, and listen again to the recording from part 3, following along with the Spanish version.
  3. Close the Spanish script, and listen once more with no script. Do your best to distinguish the words and phrases you are hearing. Focus on understanding the main ideas, not every detail.

Pues hoy hablo con la Señora Pinedo otra vez y hablamos sobre las cosas de la casa. Entonces, para empezar, vamos a hablar sobre cuando duermes. ¿Prefieres dormir con muchas almohadas o solo con una?

Bueno. ¿Es más cómodo dormir con una lámpara encendida?

 No, me gusta apagada.

Yo también. Y en la casa, ¿pones un florero con flores sobre la mesa?

Sí, muchas veces sí. Tengo muchas flores en mi jardín y me gusta cortarlas y ponerlas en un florero.

Bueno. En la casa, ¿te gustan más los pisos con alfombras o sin alfombras?

 Sin alfombra.

Y ¿por qué?

Me gustan los pisos de madera. Creo que se ven muy bonitas y es más fácil mantenerlas limpias.

Ah, sí. Eso tiene razón. Y ahora con el cuarto de baño, ¿tienes alergias a algunos tipos de jabón o productos de ducha?

Sí. Me gusta usar jabones más naturales, orgánicos, con aceites esenciales, porque tengo a veces alergias y eso me ayuda mucho, usando los jabones especiales.

¿Cuál es otra cosa en el cuarto de baño que usas con frecuencia?

Por ejemplo, las cremas para hidratar la piel. Eso uso bastante.

Entonces, ¿pones esta crema después de duchar?

Sí.

 Una ducha.

Well today I talk with Mrs. Pinedo again and we talk about house items. So to begin, we will talk about when you sleep. Do you prefer to sleep with many pillows or with only one?

With one.

Good. Is it more comfortable to sleep with a lamp turned on?

No, I like it turned off.

Me too. And in the house, do you put a vase with flowers on the table?

Yes, many times. I have flowers in my garden and I like to cut them and put them in a vase.

Okay. In the house, do you like floors with carpets or without carpets?

 Without carpet.

And, why?

I like floors of wood. I think they look pretty and it is easier to keep them clean.

Ah, yes. That ‘s right. And, now with the bathroom, do you have allergies to some types of soap or products for the shower?

Yes. I like to use more natural, organic soaps, with essential oils, because sometimes I have allergies and that helps me a lot, using special soaps.

What is another thing in the bathroom that you use frequently?

For example, creams to moisturize the skin. I use that quite a lot.

So you put this cream after showering?

Yes.

And, do you prefer to use the shower or the bathtub?

 A shower.
